Sturgis Falls and a Class Reunion!

Friday June 24th: 
We attended our 2nd Picnic in the Park at Overman Park this year!  Since I was apart of our reunion planning committee I suggested to add it to our list of events so that we could meet the kiddos of our classmates! 

It was a pretty small turn out, but McKenna and I had fun hanging out with Kim, her sisters, her cousins, and daughter Larkyn! 

McKenna ended up being pretty shy and did not want to get out of her stroller!  It actually made eating lunch, listening to live music, and chatting with old friends a bit easier! 

A few of the kids went and got balloons and ever so kindly brought McKenna back one!  I tied it onto her wrist and about two minutes later off it went high up into the sky! : (

Mommy would have loved to stay longer, but McKenna was super tired and ready for a nap.  She took her blanket and pacifier and headed to the sidewalk to go “bye”.  She just stood there (in the way) and listened to the music, it was so funny!

Friday night our classmate, Mike Staebell, was playing at The Hub.  We felt it was fitting for the K’s to go together, just like old times!  We met at our place for a quick drink before heading downtown. 

It was a ton of fun catching up with people we haven’t seen in YEARS!  Our plan was to go home early since we knew we’d be going out Saturday night too.  Well, sometimes plans change!  We ended up staying out much later than we had planned, ending our night with a slice of pizza from Tony’s and some fountain Cherry Coke (thanks to KJ and her Boo!!)!

Saturday, June 25th:
Kerry joined us to the Sturgis parade Saturday morning.  We drove around for awhile looking for a parking spot and had to end up parking at St. John’s Church!  By the time we walked down to Main Street the parade had just begun.  Luckily Kami had saved us spots right outside Pat’s office!

McKenna was awesome during the parade, sitting in her stroller the entire time!  I was amazed at how much the little girls enjoyed watching! 

After the parade we headed home to get ready for our 10 year reunion!  McKenna fell asleep on the walk back to the car.  The poor girl hadn’t even had any lunch yet!


With the reunion beginning at 3:00, we had to go early to get everything set up.  Kerry and I talked her sister Molly into giving us a ride so we didn’t have to worry about parking, not to mention the RAIN!  We had to pick up the cupcakes also, so it was really nice not having to worry about parking and running in and out so many times.  THANK YOU MOLLY!!  (Matt stayed home with McKenna and when she woke up from her nap his mom watched her for us!)

The rest of the planning committee: Kayla, Dave, and Molly also met us at VooDoo Lounge early to help out.  Guests started arriving promptly at 3:00!  We all took turns overseeing the check-in table.

Overall things went as smoothly as they could have gone!  We were extremely happy with the turnout.  The manager at VooDoo told us it’s the biggest crowd he’s seen for a reunion, go us!! : )

Throughout the afternoon and into the evening we all enjoyed catching up with old friends, listening to music from our era (thanks to the DJ we hired!), drinking cocktails, as well as eating some yummy food!

Probably my favorite part of the day was the impromptu entertainment!!  We decided to have our homecoming king and queen- Dave Gilbertson and Kayla Hackman dance to All My Life by K-Ci and JoJo.  They were both super embarrassed and we all loved every second of it!!

Next came the pushup contest- boy vs. girl!  The girls were represented by Miss Linzie Sawyer and the boys were represented by Mr. Mannie Davis!  I think KJ found her new calling as an emcee!  This girl was HILARIOUS! 

Not quite sure who ended up winning, but I do know they split the few dollar bills that were thrown at them!

The last event was balloon popping!  We randomly (okay purposely) chose boy/girl partners for this event.  The couples had to pop the balloon without using their hands- just bodies!  The winners received free drink coupons!

KJ emceed again- making the audience roar with laughter!  I seriously can’t remember the last time I laughed that hard!  The first round Humpal and Ali won and the second round Seth and Britta won!  We had a “pop off” with the winners and Seth and Britta took the crown!

At around 8:30 or so people started heading downtown.  We originally had planned to go home and take McKenna out to my parent’s, but Auntie grabbed her and took her out for us!  Thank you Danielle!

We started at Toad’s and then headed down to the beer tents.  Surprisingly it was pretty cool out, which made us want to stay at Toads longer.  Normally at Sturgis it is blazing hot.  What a change this year!

The beer tents were PACKED which made sticking to a group a bit difficult!  We hung out, had a couple drinks, and got a bag of donuts after an extremely long wait, before heading back to Overman Park.  On the walk back to the car we decided we better hit up Tony’s again for a slice of pizza!  I’m not sure why pizza after midnight seems to taste soo good! : )

Sunday midmorning McKenna and I joined my mom shopping at the craft fair.  This year they had numerous cute booths full of hair accessories for girls.  We bought a couple cute bows for the girls.  We also found some Barbie clothes for Ella!

Our shopping got cut a bit short due to the extreme heat and because McKenna would not stay in her stroller!  That turkey wouldn't get out of her stroller when I wanted her to the last two days, but then when I needed her to stay her in stroller she wanted to get out!  Before heading home for much needed naps (mom too!) we got lunch and my favorite, a Queen’s Apple!

What a FUN, FUN weekend spent with some wonderful people!  My stomach still hurts thinking about how much I laughed in two days!  Hard to believe the weekend came and went just like that!
