Petersen Christmas

Last year we were not able to make it back to Harlan due to the bad winter weather. We were worried that the weather was going to make us stay home again this year! We were to leave Christmas Eve morning around 9:30, but ended up having to wait until noon to leave. Matt, McKenna, and I rode with my parents in the van so it was really nice not having to make any decisions- we left that up to my dad! We started off on Highway 20 with one lane traffic going about 55 mph. It got better once we hit Ames, but it did snow the entire way! McKenna was a great traveler, taking a combined morning and afternoon nap in the car! (She had slept in so we kept her up and didn't put her down for a morning nap.) She enjoyed watching Curious George on her new DVD set for the car, an early Christmas present from Grandpa and Grandma!

We arrived in Harlan about 4:15, only seeing one car in the ditch! Matt and Danielle made it safely from Davenport about an hour later, but their drive was a bit more stressful than ours! After they unpacked we headed to my mom's brother Mark and his wife Deb's house. They live just a mile from my grandparents. We had an amazing meal, a Christmas "program", and then we opened presents.

The Petersen Clan
We were only missing Ella this year- which is pretty amazing since our family is getting so big!

The living room got pretty hot with so many bodies! McKenna was sweating!!

M is tired and hot!!

McKenna was introduced to fruit snacks and she LOVED them! Thanks Santa!!

A farm!

McKenna ended up going to bed after 10:00! She was tired but she sure hung in there which was nice because we didn't want to go home early!

Christmas morning McKenna had a present waiting for her by her pack-n-play- a new book from Santa!
(A friend at work told me about this tradition- I think it's a great one!)

Reading her new book in the little chair

Watching cartoons with grandpa!

Opening presents from Uncle Jeff and Aunt Cyndi

"Yeah! Color fizzes for the tub!"

We spent the rest of the day hanging out, eating, and playing games. It was a much needed relaxing day, so relaxing that McKenna never got out of her jammies!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus!
