Well, he tried...

Matt wasn't all that excited when I asked him to put lights up on the house this year. Last year he got the year off since we had a new baby and the year before Matt Garvin and my dad helped him. It was now his turn to get up on the roof and do it himself!

We found a bag of lights my dad had bought at the end of the season a couple years ago. They were still in the box unopened! We were excited because two years ago many sections ended up going out (after being put up that is) and we were going to need to buy new this year.

One Sunday afternoon I got them all ready for Matt to hang. He started with just the garage because he didn't have enough time to do them all before the Heat game... :) The lights were up and working and so I was happy!

The next weekend we measured and figured out we were one strand short so I headed out to Target to buy one more box. When I got home Matt headed back up the ladder to get the rest up. It was a pretty nice day out so McKenna and I hung outside to watch daddy. She had an absolute blast!

Matt hard at work!

And off she goes!

I took this picture so we could remember how dirty she got!

Taking a break

"I'll pick up the lens cover mom!"

"Here you go mommy!"

We were so excited to get them plugged in that night and were SO bummed when we found out that we had MORE THAN ONE section out... I couldn't believe it since they are NEW and they worked inside!!!

A couple days later with the help of Garvin, Matt switched out one of the strands while I was gone. It was a box I had found by its lone self out in the garage after I had bought the new ones. As I pulled up to the house I saw part of the lights were on. I had a big smile on my face because I was so proud Matt had fixed them while I was gone. As I pulled in the driveway I noticed the new strand was BLINKING blue lights!!!!!!!!!!! So now we have just the garage lights working with two strands regular and one strand blinking... Can you say W**** T****!!

I didn't know whether to plug them in at night or leave them off. They looked so bad!! A couple more days passed and back up the ladder he went. He decided to get the garage lights working again first and then go from there. He would pound on the roof when he needed me to run out to test the lights for him. We were off to a good start. The garage was back working and he even got the side of the peak working again. I was beginning to think we were going to get them to work!! I headed back in to finish feeding McKenna supper (she was in her high chair!).

Matt pounded again for me to run out. He told me one of the strands was creating a spark in the plug in when it was pushed all the way in. He wondered if he should put it back together and of course I said YES! As Matt went to push it all the way in you will never believe what happened- it zipped all the way down the line making all of the lights go OUT! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

We looked at each other in disbelief... are you SERIOUS??!!! I held the ladder as Matt got down. We both decided it was over this year. We had tried. :(

Each night when I would plug our little trees in outside I would look up at the lights on the house wishing they would work. I thought it was silly to have them up on the house when they didn't work. I suggested to Matt to take them down since our first snowstorm of the year was in the forecast. Instead he decided to go back up and get the garage lights working again! (I have to say I was shocked. I'm not sure if he was doing it because he knew I was bummed, or if because he was really determined to get them to work!)

Matt pulled the ladder out ONE LAST TIME and moved around some of the strands so that the garage had working lights. He had to stretch them a bit and they still don't go from end to end. We are still a little WT but I'm not complaining though because we FINALLY have working lights thanks to Matt and his persistence!!! :) I guess we'll have to try again next year!
