Halloween

Our Halloween festivities started at The Mudd Group the Friday before Halloween.  Matt’s work had trick-or-treating and some fun Halloween activities for the employee’s families.

Kenna was a bit shy so Daddy walked her around to each desk.  She would say trick-or-treat so quietly that we’d have to tell her to say it again louder.  Her pumpkin pail was full in no time!  (It was getting close to 5:00 so everyone was trying to get rid of their candy!)

We chose to only participate in the picture taking activity because I was starting to worry that McKenna might have pink eye.  She had woken up with a semi crusty eye, but her eye seemed to be okay during the day.  As we were trick-or-treating I noticed her eye was starting to get mattery and she kept wanting to rub it.  She also wasn’t quite acting like her normal self!  Instead of decorating cookies we decided I better run her to Urgent Care.  Sure enough, pink eye for Kenna!  Ugh!

For days after McKenna would say, “I trick-or-treat at daddy’s work!”  Each time I would reply, “Yep, you went trick-or-treating at daddy’s work!” :)

I’m hoping they will continue the tradition so that McKenna can enjoy it a bit more next year!

Saturday evening after our trip to the pumpkin patch we headed out to my parents for pumpkin carving!  McKenna was much more interested in playing her pumpkin like a drum!

She probably helped me for a total of 2 minutes!  The first time her fingers touched the seeds she said, “That’s cold mommy!” and quickly pulled her hand back out of the pumpkin!  All she wanted to do was brush it to make it clean!  Mommy worked hard to make a polka dot pumpkin with an apple corer.  It turned out pretty cute!

Danielle had high hopes of fitting Lily in the pumpkin she picked at Bloomsbury.  We kept trying to tell her that she wasn’t going to fit!!  At least we were able to get an adorable picture of her sitting on top of it instead!

It was kind of weird having trick-or-treating on a Monday night!  The Habincks (our neighbors and Kenna’s daycare) invited us over for supper so after work we rushed home, got our things ready, and then rushed back over to the Habincks for mummy dogs, Halloween mac-n-cheese, and lot of other really yummy things!

We tried to get a few pictures before trick-or-treating of Ella, as Jessie the cowgirl, Lily, as a watermelon, and Kenna, as Cookie Monster but Kenna wasn’t being very cooperative!  She kept walking away!  I think she was ready to start filling up her bucket!

The bottom left picture sums up the night for Kenna.  She was pretty much left in the dust again this year!  We started at the Hansens together and then off went the big kids.  We had Ella run back for a quick picture of the cousins because we knew by the time we saw her again it would be dark!

Grandma Jeanie joined us as we headed around the block.  Our plan was to trick-or-treat around the block and then when we made it back to our house we would pass out candy for a little while before heading to Uncle Robby’s and our friend’s house.

McKenna sometimes rode in the wagon and sometimes she wanted to pull it all by herself.  Matt would wheel her right up to the candy basket.  That’s what I call at your service!

McKenna was a girl of few words while going around the block.  She would quietly walk up to each house, say trick-or-treat and thank-you, and be on her way.  I had expected her to be super excited and run from house to house.

By the time we made it back to our house McKenna was pretty much DONE with trick-or-treating.  She had started crying and was ready to take her costume off and find her blankie and paci!  I knew there was no hope in getting any pictures of her by the pumpkins for our annual Halloween picture so we just headed inside and I didn’t even make a fuss! :) LOL.

Grandma Tappy stopped over to see Kenna in her costume about 1 minute after it came off, dang!  She helped Kenna pass out candy for a little bit before we left to go to the Brendens.

While at the Brendens Kenna was pretty shy.  She was clingy and again not herself.  She had a total melt down right before we left.  We couldn’t figure out why she was upset!  We chalked it up as being overly tired from little sleep the past few nights and headed up the street to Uncle Robby’s.

McKenna wouldn’t even let us set her down at Robby’s.  She wouldn’t say trick-or-treat- all she did was cry!  We apologized to him and headed home to get Cookie Monster to bed!

(See the next post for details on how the night went!)

A couple days after Halloween we dressed Kenna back up in her costume so we could get some pictures of her by the pumpkins.  McKenna was obsessed with taking out the candle (the fake kind where you can flip the switch to turn it on).  We had a hard time getting her to look at the camera!

Afterwards we walked over to the Habincks to deliver Wheezy (the dog) her new ladybug costume for next year!
