Dumb Dog

Saturday night before Easter Lexi got caught up in a fence (so we think) at my parent's house. I called the vet at 10:00 PM to see if there was anything we should do for her that night. He said we would need to come in tomorrow (Easter) to have staples/stitches put in. After church on Sunday Matt took her in... only $135....!!! Due to it being an emergency call, as well as a holiday, our office call was majority of our bill... thanks Lexi!

I came home Friday after school to find that Lexi had eaten her staples!! I quickly called the vet to make an appointment to get her in because the wound was completely opened up and we were back at square one... We were lucky enough to get in before closing. The vet recommended a cone so that she couldn't get at it. I was all about it! $60 later, we were back home and ready for the weekend.

We had plans to grill out at the Garvin's with friends and I was supposed to get the meat. Thinking Matt would be home soon, I dropped Lexi off at home and quickly ran to Fareway. Shortly after arriving at Danielle's I get a call from Matt.... Lexi had eaten her stitches out AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! I quickly called the vet and guess what... the EMERGENCY line came up because they were closed for the weekend. This is when the tears started!! I was sooo mad at Lexi but also really mad at myself. I didn't have the cone on her because I needed Matt's help getting it put together... I called my dad for advice. (For some reason dads always make it better!) I ended up calling our vet at home (I used to babysit for them and know the family well) to see if we could wait to have her restitched. Of course he said no and that it would need to be done tonight. He said he would meet us at the clinic in 5 minutes. Because he is the BEST VET IN THE WHOLE WORLD he told us the stitches should have at least lasted us an hour and that this set was on him. Thank you JOHN!!!

Lexi ended up wearing the cone for majority of each day. We let her sleep with it off because she sleeps in our bed and we felt we would hear her if she started getting at it. It was pretty funny because she would run into EVERYTHING! She had a hard time drinking water and eating her food. I have to say I didn't feel bad for her, it was her own fault!

Last weekend I stayed at my parent's overnight because Matt was out of town. I didn't get Lexi's cone on her Saturday night and you guessed it... SHE ATE THEM OUT AGAIN!!!! I could have killed her again! (You are probably thinking... why didn't you learn your lesson Krista?? I have no excuses... she was in the kennel with JayCee in the garage and since we hadn't been putting it on her at night I just didn't get it on her. I know, my fault!!)

We decided to let it heal on its own this time. We did make her wear a t-shirt during the day when we were gone so that she couldn't pick at it and so she wouldn't get blood all over the house. I am happy to say it is almost healed! The good news is I won't have to pay the vet bill this week to have them taken out! I guess Lexi thought she was saving us some money! :) She was trying to be a good girl after all....
