Some people dislike their time at the hospital but I really enjoy it! We ended up staying three nights since Kamryn was born early in the morning Tuesday. I was able to get up and moving MUCH earlier than I was able to with McKenna. A couple hours after she was born I tried to get up to get a bath. My left leg was a bit slower to “come to” than my right leg so when I went to walk it wasn’t 100%! It was the weirdest feeling trying to walk with your legs completely locked. (I had nurses on both sides of me helping me so that I wouldn’t pass out!) We went really slow but once I got to the bathroom I became really light headed and started getting nauseous. I asked the nurse if I could lay on the floor for awhile! :) I’ve learned that this is the best way for me to start feeling better. (I’ll never forget the time I had to lay on the floor at 4th and Main. I had only had one drink and I was super sick. You know I’m really sick if I’m going to lay down on the floor in a nasty bar!!) The nurses had me sit with my head between my legs for a few minutes before wheeling me back to my bed! (They had me sit on a stool with rollers so that I didn’t have to walk!!) I was a bit disappointed once I got back to bed because I had been so proud of myself for getting up and moving so soon after her birth! I had also wanted to be cleaned up and in my normal clothes when McKenna came to visit. I wanted to look as normal as possible so it wasn’t so scary for her! I rested for a couple hours and then was able to try again- this time with no problems!
We took advantage of the nursery both nights we were there. The second night the nurse told us that they kept telling the other baby girls in the nursery that they needed to be more like Kamryn. She said she was perfect! She would wake up and barely cry when she was hungry and would go right to sleep when she would return from being fed!
Another part I love about the hospital stay is room service! There is something about being able to call a number and fifteen minutes later having a meal at your fingertips that I could live with!! I ordered grilled cheese, fresh fruit, vegetables, Doritos (for Matt), and a homemade rice krispy bar for nearly every meal!!
After Kamryn was born my mom, sister, Jeanie, and my Allen student stayed until about 6:30 and then let us have some time just the three of us. We had a quiet morning which was nice because it allowed us to get some much needed rest!
We arrived at the hospital with two tentative names for both sexes. Choosing a name was not an easy task (especially since I’m a teacher!)! A few weeks before we had gone out to eat with one goal in mind- have names finalized!! We left Screaming Eagle just as confused as we did when we arrived!!
I had been stuck on “K” names since we have Matt, Krista, and McKenna. :) I haven’t always been a letter person, but for some reason I kept going back to K’s! We knew Elizabeth would be the middle name if it was a girl, as it’s a family name on Matt’s side. His mom’s middle name is Elizabeth and she had wanted to name her daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth was the middle name of his great-grandmother, as well as two of his cousins!
Kamryn was born at 4:57 and we didn’t have her named until 9:45! I had refused to send out a text saying baby was here until we had a name! We had gone back and forth between two names and we finally decided on Kamryn Elizabeth and I’m so happy we did!
Kamryn ended up getting her first bath around 1:45. She didn’t mind it too much!
All cleaned up just waiting for big sister to arrive!
My parents had had Kenna overnight and did not tell her that she had a baby sister! They waited until they were on their way to the hospital to tell her that mommy had her baby. Kenna walked into the room and went right up to the bassinet and said, “It’s a girl mommy!!” We have this moment on video camera and it is so precious! This was my dad’s first time at the hospital since he’d been home watching the girls so my mom and sister could sleep!
We had a big sister gift waiting for McKenna. She was so excited to get a present! Kamryn gave her a big sister shirt, big sister book, and a diaper bag and onesie set for her Bitty Baby. She was thrilled to be able to change Abby’s diaper. Daddy helped her get the pink onesie on… backwards!! :)
McKenna was at the hospital for less than ten minutes and she was already asking if she could hold her sister. It was so sweet listening and watching her as she talked to Kamryn. McKenna was very interested in touching her cheeks, hands, and toes. She was disappointed that mommy had to help her, as she wanted to do it all by herself!
Family of four- so blessed!
Grandpa and Grandma Goetz with their granddaughters!
McKenna insisted that we put her baby sister in her bassinet rather than holding her. Nurse Jen happened to stop by for a routine assessment while Kenna was there. Kenna was thrilled getting to watch her. She then became obsessed with wearing the stethoscope and listening to everyone’s hearts! After Kamryn was all checked out we realized she had had a HUGE blowout (this was one of three in the hospital!)! It was so messy we had Nurse Jen give her another bath! I think Little Sissy wanted her big sister to be able to watch bath time!
McKenna wasn’t sure what to think about Kamryn getting a bath in the sink!
Danielle and the girls came to visit later that afternoon. To say Ella and Lily were excited is an understatement! It was so fun to see their excitement and to watch McKenna show off (and protect!) her sister!
The Garvins spoiled us with our first Edibles bouquet (the dipped pineapple cupcakes are to DIE for!!), two adorable outfits for Kamryn, and a Strawberry Shortcake bowling set and Dora book for McKenna!
Sisters- I couldn’t be more excited that McKenna is going to have a sister! Danielle and I are so close and we are so thankful that our girls also have sisters as well as each other!
“Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of. You know whatever you do, they'll still be there.” ~Amy Li
The Goetz girls continue!
Day 1 Visitors: Grandpa Tim (didn’t get a picture), Kami Galles, Nurse Katie Rhoades, Heidi and Violet Mounce, Tim and Erica Brenden, Staci Wilkinson, and Laura Steen!
When McKenna was born there was a big H1N1 outbreak so kids were not allowed to come visit. This caused a lot of our friends to have to stay home, as well as Cousin Ella. It was fun this time around getting to have visitors in the hospital.
Day 2 Visitors: Bethany Moore (Allen Student); Carter, Jody, Kael, and Eli Moore; Grandpa and Grandma Lindgren; AJ, Christy, and Lincoln Manfull; and Doug, Staci, Jani, and Mallory Wilkinson!
I’m a sucker when it comes to traditions. :) The yellow sleeper and hat is the outfit both my sister and I came home from the hospital in! Danielle and I made sure to take pictures of McKenna and Lily in it as well. The ducky outfit was the first outfit McKenna wore so I of course had to get an identical picture of Kamryn in it too! We also have pictures of McKenna with the light pink bow all swaddled up in her bassinet. I have a feeling I’m going to be this way with many of McKenna’s outfits. I’m just soooo excited that some of the adorable accessories and outfits will get to be worn again!
I had these cookies from Main Street Sweets sent to school for my class as well as the staff! They are seriously the best cookies!!
Time to go home! We left the hospital a little before 6:00 Thursday evening. We ordered food from Mulligans so that we didn’t have to worry about cooking!
We arrived home to find three EXTREMELY ecstatic little girls waiting at the top of the stairs for us! Once again McKenna insisted that Kamryn be put in her bed. As soon as I put Kamryn down McKenna went to find her blankets so that she could give them to her sister- so sweet! (We had to have a quick talk that blankets only go on Sissy’s legs!!) The girls were seriously so hyper. I could barely hold them back from trying to get in the Pack N’ Play with her! :)
Quotes from the girls:
McKenna: “She’s not beautiful, she’s gorgeous mom!” “Mom, is there water in that boob? (While I’m nursing and explaining that babies only drink milk.) K- “No, there is milk in there too.” M- “Well, where are the snack then?!” K- Laughs hysterically!
Ella: “She’s soooo cute I could just die.” “I wish my name was Kamryn!”
Lily: “Hi Tamryn. Hi Tamryn. Hi Tamryn.” “Hi Tamryn… boo!”
Ella is going to be the best helper with our new babes! We can leave the room for a minute and feel confident that baby is in good hands. Lexi was once again just fine with our new addition, although we think she is shedding more than usual now. (Maybe it’s her way of reminding us that she’s still around??!!) She has started sleeping downstairs again now that Kamryn is in our room!
McKenna was more than happy that her mommy and daddy were back home! From the minute I sat down with Kamryn she took off her socks and started bringing things over for her “Sissy”. Let’s hope this sharing business is going to continue forever!
It has been one whirlwind of a week! I’m already so in love with having TWO girls and am so excited to watch them grow up together!
Because it was such a crazy week I want to write down the details so we never forget!
Sunday, February 3rd- Matt Garvin leaves at 4:00 AM for a week of work in Boston
Monday, February 4th- Doctor’s appointment (strip membranes and get written out of work)/ Find out our daycare provider will be on jury duty for at least two weeks/ Water breaks around 8:00 PM so McKenna is dropped off at Garvin’s around 8:30 and then taken back to my parent’s house to spend the night with my dad/ Emily Schmidt spends the night with Lily/ Danielle and my mom come to the hospital for the birth
Tuesday, February 5th- Kamryn makes her entrance into this world at 4:57AM/ Danielle and my mom head home around 6:30 to get some sleep/ Grandpa Dan comes to town to pick up Lily and take her back to his house so Danielle can sleep/ Grandpa watches both girls so Grandma can sleep/ All come visit in the afternoon (No nap for McKenna because she slept in until 9:00)/ McKenna spends the night with my parent’s again
Wednesday, February 6th- My parents both have to go back to work so McKenna has to be woken up (never good!) to come into the Garvins/ Danielle also has to work so she lined up an Allen student to come watch both girls for the morning (Danielle’s original sitter’s Gpa passed away so she wasn’t able to help out.)/ Kenna has a huge meltdown for the sitter because she wanted a brother… What?! She wanted a sister the whole time!!/ Matt relieves the sitter at noon/ McKenna gets woken from her nap by the FedEx guy (again- never good)/ Grandma Jeanie relieves Matt/ Kami picks up Lily/ Jeanie and Tim bring McKenna up to the hospital/ McKenna is a HOT mess at the hospital/ Matt drops Kenna off at my parent’s on his way to his basketball game in Waverly/ McKenna throws up about 8:00 (At this point not sure if it’s the flu or just because she was so worked up!)/ Decide to leave her at parent’s overnight
Thursday, February 7th- Grandpa Dan stays home with McKenna in the morning so that she can sleep in/ Matt relieves my dad at noon/ Kenna takes a nice long (too long) nap at HOME!!/ Matt comes back to pick mommy and Kamryn up at the hospital around 5:15 while Grandma Tami stays with McKenna/ We get home around 6:15/ All FOUR of us go to bed around midnight!! (With Kenna waking up from her nap at 4:45 this meant she wasn’t ready for bed- ahhh!!!)
Friday, February 8th- Daddy’s 32nd birthday!/ Uncle Matt was supposed to get home today but he got snowed in in Boston, as they received over 20 inches of snow! He didn’t make it home until Sunday around 10:30 PM. That was after 8 delayed flights- wow!
One WILD week that we will never forget!!
