At the beginning of August Kenna and I joined Grandma Jeanie for a quick trip to Sioux City to see Matt’s cousin, Ann and her two girls from California. They were unable to come to Iowa for their yearly visit while we were at Okoboji this year.
McKenna did great during the four hour drive. We stopped a couple times which helped. We even stopped at Kmart so mommy could buy 24 cent crayons for her students!! Kenna twisted Grandma’s arm (but not too hard) and Grandma bought her a new Barney video!
We ate The Villager for lunch before arriving in Sioux City. McKenna had mac-n-cheese and got it EVERYWHERE!! We ripped two bibs, so not only was it all over her, but all over the floor… sorry! McKenna got an ice cream cone along with her kid’s meal. She was in heaven, only wanting to hold the cone herself!
Matt’s Aunt Kathie and Uncle Tom have a pool in their backyard so we had to take advantage of it after Kenna’s nap! It took McKenna a little bit to warm up to the water but once she did she had a lot of fun swimming in the pool with Grandma and the girls!
After watching Justine and Paige go off the diving board Kenna decided it was her turn! At first I told her we needed daddy to help us but since he wasn’t there she was going to have to wait until the next time! This was not the answer she wanted to hear and asked again! I REALLY did not think she would do it so I let Justine walk her to the end of the board while I treaded water below it. I couldn’t believe it when she acted like she wanted to go off the board! Justine lowered her into the water and mommy caught her! The second she was in my arms she said, “Again mommy, again!” I’m still in awe that she had enough courage to go off the board! Next summer should be interesting when daddy’s with us!
Grandma and the girls taught Kenna the motorboat song. “Motorboat, motorboat go so slow. Motorboat, motorboat go so fast. Motorboat, motorboat step on the gas!” They sang this song over, and over, and OVER!!
Thursday evening we had an amazing Iowa home cooked meal, complete with corn on the cob! After supper we headed to the mall to do a little shopping. Next time we’ll plan to get better directions (or just directions to start with!) because we spent half of our time gone in the car looking for the mall!! It made for a good laugh! : )
Friday morning mommy was able to go to a few little shops with Ann while the Grandmas watched the girls. After lunch we had to head home. :( We got a quick picture of the girls together before leaving. Kenna is wearing the outfit they gave her last summer!!
Giving hugs to two of her favorite cousins!
Our trip was pretty short but we were thankful of the time we got to spend with Uncle Tom, Aunt Kathie, Uncle George, Aunt Barb, and Cousins Ann, Justine, and Paige. It was sad saying good-bye since we won’t see them again until next summer! A big thanks to Grandma Jeanie for driving and letting both mommy and Kenna sleep!!
