September 11th, 2001 is a day we all will never forget, going down as one of the most horrific days in history. It is a day that I learned the evil of terrorism. On that day 2,977 victims and 19 hijackers lost their lives. I can’t even begin to think about the number of people that lost loved ones. As the ten year anniversary approached I have to say I was a bit nervous wondering if something would happen again. Matt spent a lot of time watching t.v. shows featuring events from that unbelievable day. I could only get myself to watch a few as I would cry during each show! The one night I finally let Matt keep the t.v. on one of the shows as I was trying to fall asleep I had nightmares the entire night, reliving the day, only this time I was there!
We spent the morning of September 11th going to church and then watching the ceremony in New York. What an amazing tribute to the men and women who lost their lives.
We spent the afternoon out at George Wyth with my family. It was a beautiful sunny day- perfect weather to go boating on a fishing boat!!!
The girls had a blast riding on the boat. Grandpa even let them drive with no help!
While the boys took their turn (so they could fish) the girls relaxed in the shade. Miss Lily was a trooper and slept majority of the time! Auntie took Ella and Kenna to the sand to play for a bit so mommy could correct some school papers.
We took the girls out for one more turn before heading home. My dad really wanted the girls to go fishing. I was surprised that both girls “petted” the first fish caught. For some reason they were scared of every other fish we caught!
If you know my dad you know he’s always trying to come up with a way to make the experience the best for his girls. After we had been fishing for awhile he told me to distract Ella for a minute, so I did. As I took a sneak peak on what he was up to I saw him grab into the fish “cooler”, pull out a fish, hook it, and throw it into the water. He proceeds to holler at Ella to help him with his pole because he thought there might be a big fish on the other end!
By this point Ella was done finishing and did not want to help reel in the fish. : ) After it was out of the water both girls acted completely scared of it so my dad threw it back! Our fishing trip was now over! Time to ahead in!
Our original plan was to bring food to cook there, but we decided it would be much easier if we headed back to my parent’s to eat.
Grandpa, Uncle Matt, and Ella were in charge of cooking the hot dogs over the fire. While the women (okay my mom) prepared the rest of the meal!
After supper we roasted marshmallows. S’mores are one of my most FAVORITE summer treats!!
Before heading home we had to get pictures with one of grandpa’s watermelon from his garden! Check out how big this thing is!
Hanging out with family couldn’t have been a more perfect way to spend 9/11 after being reminded all week that we need to cherish each and every day!
