12 Months Old!!

I can't believe I am writing this post! 12 months old??? Really??!!

The past 12 months have been the best 12 months of my life! One year ago on October 20th at 8:26 PM McKenna Rene', a 8 lb. 14 oz. blonde haired bundle of joy, decided to join our family, making my dream to become a mom come true. Just thinking of that day brings tears to my eyes. We didn't know that day how our lives were going to be forever changed in the most amazing way.

We didn't know that...
being called mommy and daddy could feel so special
watching a baby sleep could be so peaceful
we would feel so much sadness when our daughter is in pain
we wouldn't be (too) bothered :) by nights of little sleep
we would be so worried when she is sick
we would be so excited for her "firsts"
and
we could love someone as much as we love our baby girl!

After putting McKenna to bed on her birthday I watched the video of her birth. There were points when I couldn't see the screen due to all the tears streaming down my face! Watching it brought so many emotions- happiness, nervousness (as if I was doing it all over again!), and sadness (that my baby girl is already one). I am sooo thankful we have it on video. I would highly recommend videotaping the birth to anyone who is thinking about it (it doesn't have to be R rated!). It is something I will cherish forever!

Now onto our one year old!

As I've said in previous posts, it is a challenge to get pictures of McKenna sitting still in her chair- month 12 was no exception! We started the photo shoot with her trying to rip the sticker off her shirt. I'm not sure how many times I had to put it back on... Then she wouldn't stay in her chair, crawling to get the puffs Matt and I were bribing her with. Then she kept turning around in her chair looking for Robby, and lastly walking!!!

It was getting close to bedtime so we had to be satisfied with what we got (at least that is what Matt said)!

New things this month include:
*three new teeth popped through on the top
*walking alone (although not all the time yet)
*starting whole milk (not a fan- have to mix with breastmilk!)
*saying many new things- about anything you ask her to say!
*repeating animal sounds (it is so cute!)
*playing with Lexi by throwing her toys to her
*giving high fives (while saying "Pow"- I don't know, ask daddy about that one!)
*"following directions"- we tell her to go honk the horn on her car and she goes and does it!
*starting to get into cupboards :)
*going to the bathroom closet to get ducky when it's time for her bath
*pointing at things (outlets) and saying "no, no"
*pointing at the tv while saying "oo oo ah ah oo oo ah ah" (This means she wants to watch Curious George- her absolute favorite!)

At her one year check up today McKenna weighed in at 22lbs. and 5 oz (75%) and was 30 1/2 inches (90%) long! I would say her failure to thrive days are long gone!! This appointment brought shots along with the finger prick to draw blood... not fun!

Stay tuned for more posts about her birthday!
