Back in July, I decided to take the plunge and cut my hair!
Donating my hair as been something I’ve always wanted to do. I felt this was an “easy” way I could give to others in need. Unfortunately, I was unable to give in the past because I color my hair (thank you dad for my grey hair already!). I was beyond excited when I heard they are accepting hair, colored or not now!!!!
Danielle and I took the girls on a short vacation to Harlan to visit out family in the middle of July. Matt Garvin was working in the area so Danielle thought it would be fun to go to Harlan so they could at least see each other at night!
My Aunt Jani called the first night we were there to see if Danielle and I were interested in getting pedicures at the salon she works at. Of course we were interested!! While on the phone with her, I mentioned to her that I was MAYBE interested in getting my hair cut. I had barely finished my sentence when she started throwing out times that would work the next day! I agreed to a cut at 1:00 while a pedicure after. NO turning back now!
I have to say it was a bit weird Tuesday morning blow drying my hair for what felt like the last time. As I straighten my “poof” I started second guessing my plan. Was I really ready to cut my hair all the way off? Would it be long enough for a ponytail? What if I hated it?
Who knew I’d be so “attached” to my hair?! Deep down I knew it was time. The best part was knowing I was going to be helping someone who was not dealing with the same dilemma I was. I would be helping someone who had little to no hair.
As I sat in the chair I warned Tammy that I was a bit nervous. She preceded to tell me that companies were now accepting any lengths people were willing to donate, as there is a need for hair for bangs, little braids, and hair to go under hats. I didn’t hesitate when I told her I wanted to give the full 10 inches. That was my plan and I was sticking to it!!
I was pleasantly surprised when she measured out 10 inches. I was going to come away with hair to my shoulders which for sure would be long enough for a ponytail (a summer must!)!!
My heart is full knowing I was able to donate 11 inches of my hair to a child in need.
What can you do to help others?
